Legal Information and Company Details

This page brings together the statutory and regulatory information that newsalix is required to publish about itself under United Kingdom company, e-commerce and data protection law, together with a plain-English explanation of the rules that apply when you visit or use this website. It is written for visitors, prospective customers, suppliers and anyone who needs to know who is responsible for the site and how to raise a concern. Last updated: 4 November 2026.

1. Who We Are and the Role We Play

The website you are reading is operated by newsalix, referred to on this page as "we", "us" and "our". We run a professional hub for live television production. Our subject matter covers studio equipment integration, dynamic camera technique, acoustic optimisation, lighting design and the practical production processes that keep news programmes, studio interviews and live shows on air.

It is worth being precise about our role, because two different capacities are combined on this site:

  • Publisher. We commission, write, edit and maintain the reference material, technical explainers and production guidance published here. In that capacity we decide what appears on the website and how it is presented, and we are the controller of any personal data collected through the site itself.
  • Supplier. Where you engage us for technical services, equipment integration, consultancy, training or support, we act as the supplier of those services and as the business contact for your organisation.

We are not a broadcaster, we do not hold or operate a television broadcast licence, and we are not an agent acting on behalf of any broadcaster, production company or rights holder. Nothing on this website should be read as a promise that a particular programme, transmission, event or booking will take place, and no statement here creates a contract for the supply of goods or services.

2. Legal Form, Registration Details and Responsible Representatives

We are a private company limited by shares, incorporated and registered in England and Wales, and subject to the Companies Act 2006 and the Companies (Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2008. The disclosures required by those rules appear below and are repeated in the footer of every page of this website, so that they are never more than one screen away from whatever you are reading.

  • Legal company name: newsalix
  • Company Registration Number: 03555097
  • Place of registration: England and Wales
  • Registered office address: The Greenhouse, MediaCityUK, Salford, Greater Manchester M50 2EQ, United Kingdom
  • VAT Number: 477222243
  • Principal business activity: the hire, sale and integration of professional audio, lighting, video and studio equipment, and the provision of related technical services for broadcasters, venues and live production.

Directors and other persons authorised to represent the company are recorded on the public register maintained by Companies House and can be verified there using the registration number shown above. We do not publish the names of individual officers on this page; if you need to confirm who is authorised to bind the company, please write to us using the contact route in section 5 and we will confirm the position in writing.

2.1 Trading names, brands and domains

Any trading name, brand or domain used by us is used under licence by the company named above, which remains the legal entity responsible for this website and for any contract you enter into with us. Where a third-party brand is mentioned on this site — for example the manufacturer of a camera, audio console or lighting fixture — it is mentioned for identification and compatibility purposes only. Manufacturer and product names are the property of their respective owners, and their use does not imply endorsement, certification or partnership unless we say so expressly.

3. Tax Identifiers, Licences and Regulatory Obligations

Our VAT registration number is 477222243. Prices shown on this website, in quotations and on invoices are stated exclusive of VAT unless they are expressly marked as including VAT. Where VAT applies it is added at the prevailing United Kingdom rate at the point of supply.

Because we supply equipment and technical services rather than regulated financial, legal or healthcare services, we are not required to display a professional authorisation number or an ombudsman membership on this page. The obligations that do apply to us include the following:

  • company law disclosure duties under the Companies Act 2006 and the Companies (Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2008;
  • information duties towards consumers and business customers under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015;
  • the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002, which require the name, geographic address and electronic contact details of the service provider to be made available to users;
  • data protection duties under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and electronic marketing and cookie duties under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR);
  • waste electrical and electronic equipment and battery producer obligations, where those apply to equipment we place on the United Kingdom market.

Where we work on a client site, additional site-specific requirements — for example electrical safety rules, working at height, noise control or venue accreditation — are set out in the relevant contract, method statement or risk assessment rather than on this page. Those documents take priority over any general description of our services published here.

4. Registered Office and Available Contact Details

Our registered office, which is the address at which formal documents and legal notices may validly be served on the company, is The Greenhouse, MediaCityUK, Salford, Greater Manchester M50 2EQ, United Kingdom. Please note that the registered office is not necessarily a site at which equipment can be collected, returned or inspected; collections, deliveries and returns are arranged case by case and confirmed in writing.

You can reach us in the following ways:

  • Email: hello@mediacityuk.co.uk
  • Telephone: 0161 886 5300
  • Postal and registered office address: The Greenhouse, MediaCityUK, Salford, Greater Manchester M50 2EQ, United Kingdom
  • Contact form: available on the Contacts page of this website

We aim to reply to enquiries within three working days. Email is the quickest route for technical questions and quotations. If your enquiry concerns a booking that is already in progress, please include the reference number you were given so that your message reaches the right team without delay. Calls may be recorded for training and quality purposes; if you would prefer not to be recorded, please tell us at the start of the call.

5. Purpose, Scope and Intended Audience of This Website

This website is a professional reference and information resource. Its purpose is to help production professionals, engineers, studio managers, technical directors and students understand how live television production is put together: how studio equipment is integrated, how camera movement and framing are planned for multi-camera work, how rooms are treated acoustically, how lighting is designed for faces and sets, and how reliable production processes are maintained for news bulletins, interviews and live shows.

The intended audience is professional and semi-professional. Most of the material assumes some familiarity with production terminology, signal flows, timecode, audio levels and lighting units. It is not a consumer guide and it is not aimed at children; we do not knowingly direct any part of this website at children under the age of 13.

This website is a commercial site. Some pages may describe services, training, consultancy or equipment that we or our partners supply, and you may be able to enquire about them or order them from us. Where a page is promotional rather than purely informational, we aim to make that clear, and any prices or availability shown are indicative until confirmed in a written quotation or order confirmation.

Nothing on this website constitutes professional engineering, structural, electrical or legal advice for your particular premises. Broadcast installations are subject to specific safety and licensing requirements, and independent advice should always be obtained before you alter a studio, rigging point or electrical installation.

6. Access to the Website and Acceptable Use

You may browse this website free of charge. We do not guarantee that any particular page, feature or download will always be available, and we may add, change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site without notice, including where we need to carry out maintenance or where content has become out of date.

When you use this website you agree to do so lawfully and in a way that does not interfere with other people's use of it. In particular, you must not:

  • copy, scrape, harvest or systematically extract content, contact details or data from the site for commercial purposes without our written permission;
  • introduce viruses, malware, ransomware or any other harmful code, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its servers or any connected system;
  • probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the site, or circumvent any security or access-control measure;
  • use automated tools to place excessive load on the site, including bulk requests that are not part of normal browsing;
  • frame, mirror, re-host or present our content in a way that misleads users about its origin or suggests an association with us that does not exist;
  • use the site to harass, threaten, defame or discriminate against any person, or to publish material that is unlawful, obscene or infringing;
  • submit false, misleading or impersonating information through any form on the site.

6.1 Consequences of misuse

If we believe that your use of the site breaches these rules, we may block your access, remove any content you have submitted, report the matter to the relevant authorities and, where we have suffered loss, pursue a claim for damages. Where misuse involves unauthorised access to a computer system, it may also constitute a criminal offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990.

6.2 Accounts and credentials

If we ever issue you with a login, password or client area access, you are responsible for keeping those credentials confidential and for all activity carried out under them. Tell us immediately if you believe your credentials have been compromised.

7. Ownership and Permitted Use of Content, Trademarks and Other Intellectual Property

All content on this website — including text, diagrams, illustrations, photography, video, audio, layout, page design, source code and the selection and arrangement of the material — is owned by us or licensed to us, and is protected by copyright, database right and design law. The site name, any logo and any associated branding are our trademarks or are used under licence.

7.1 What you may do

You may read, view and print individual pages for your own internal, non-commercial reference, and you may quote short extracts of our text provided that the quotation is accurate, is not used in a misleading way, and is accompanied by a clear acknowledgement that the material comes from this website.

7.2 What you may not do

You may not reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, rent, sub-licence, translate, adapt or create derivative works from any substantial part of this website, nor may you use our content to train or fine-tune any machine learning or artificial intelligence model, without our prior written consent. Requests for permission, syndication or educational use should be sent to the email address in section 4.

If you believe that material published on this website infringes your own copyright or another intellectual property right, please contact us with details of the work, the page concerned and evidence of your rights. We will investigate promptly and will remove or amend material where that is appropriate.

8. Accuracy, Availability and Proportionate Limits of Liability

We take care to make sure the information on this website is accurate and useful when it is published. Even so, live production technology changes quickly, manufacturers revise firmware and specifications, and practices differ between studios. Content is therefore provided for general guidance only and you should verify any technical detail against the manufacturer's current documentation and your own risk assessment before relying on it.

8.1 No warranty of uninterrupted service

We provide this website on an "as available" basis. We do not warrant that access will be uninterrupted, that the site will be free of errors or harmful components, or that any defect will be corrected within a particular time. We may suspend the site for maintenance, security or operational reasons.

8.2 What we do not limit

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded under the law of England and Wales.

8.3 What we do limit

Subject to the paragraph above, and to the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss of profit, loss of revenue, loss of anticipated savings, loss of business opportunity, loss of goodwill or any indirect or consequential loss arising out of your use of, or inability to use, this website or reliance on its content. Where you are a consumer, these limitations do not affect your statutory rights, including your right to goods and services that are of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.

9. External Links and Third-Party Content

This website may contain links to websites, documents, videos or tools operated by other organisations, and may embed third-party content such as maps, video players or social media widgets. Those links and embeds are provided for convenience and reference only.

We do not control third-party sites and we are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, security, privacy practices or compliance with the law. A link from our site does not imply that we endorse the linked organisation, its products or its views. If you follow an external link, you leave our site and you become subject to the terms and privacy practices of the destination site; you should read those before providing any personal information.

Where we quote or summarise third-party material, we do so fairly and for the purpose of comment, criticism, review or technical explanation. If you are a rights holder and believe that we have quoted or attributed material incorrectly, please contact us and we will correct or remove it.

10. Data Protection, Cookies and Electronic Communications

We process personal data in accordance with the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and, for cookies and electronic marketing, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003. The full detail of what we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it and who we share it with is set out in our Privacy Policy and our Cookie Policy, which should be read together with this page.

In outline: we collect the information you provide through our contact form and by email, together with limited technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, which we use for security, troubleshooting and aggregate analytics. We rely on your consent for non-essential cookies and for marketing messages, on the performance of a contract where you engage our services, and on our legitimate interests for the security and improvement of the site.

10.1 Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to be informed about how your data is used, to access a copy of it, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased in certain circumstances, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability where processing is based on consent or contract and carried out by automated means, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, which is the United Kingdom supervisory authority for data protection.

10.2 Cookies and tracking

This site uses a cookie banner to obtain your choices before non-essential cookies are set. Essential cookies are used to remember your consent choices and to keep the site secure; non-essential analytics and preference cookies are set only if you accept them. You can change or withdraw your cookie choices at any time through the cookie settings link in the banner or footer, and you can also delete or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of the site from working correctly.

11. Related Policies and Cross-References

This page is a summary of the legal framework that applies to this website. The following documents on the site contain the full detail and form part of the terms on which you use it:

  • Privacy Policy — how we collect, use, store, share and delete personal data, how long we keep it, our lawful bases for processing, international transfers and your rights.
  • Cookie Policy — the specific cookies and similar technologies used on this site, their purpose, their duration and how to accept, reject or manage them.
  • Terms and Conditions — the rules for using this website and for ordering, hiring or receiving any goods and services from us.
  • Payment and Refund Policy — how payments are taken, when deposits or hire charges fall due, and how cancellations, returns and refunds are handled.

Where there is any inconsistency between this page and a signed contract or order confirmation, the signed contract or order confirmation takes priority. Where there is an inconsistency between this page and the Privacy Policy on a data protection matter, the Privacy Policy takes priority.

12. Bookings, Payments, Cancellations and Refunds

Where you book training, consultancy, integration work, equipment hire or technical support from us, a contract is formed only when we issue a written order confirmation or a counter-signed booking form. Any quotation given is an invitation to treat rather than a binding offer, and quotations are valid for 30 days unless stated otherwise.

Unless we agree different terms in writing, the following principles apply: deposits are payable on confirmation and are applied against the final invoice; the balance is due within 30 days of invoice for business customers, or before delivery or on collection for consumers; late payment may attract statutory interest under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998; and hire charges run from the time the equipment leaves our control until the time it is returned in the condition in which it was supplied, fair wear and tear excepted.

Cancellations are handled in accordance with our Payment and Refund Policy. In summary, cancellations made well in advance are normally refundable less any costs we have already committed, while cancellations close to the delivery date or on the day may be chargeable in full because crew time and equipment availability cannot be recovered. Where the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 give you a statutory cancellation right, we will honour it, and we will tell you before you order if a booking is exempt from that right — for example because it is scheduled for a specific date or because it involves bespoke configuration.

Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights where goods are faulty, misdescribed or not of satisfactory quality.

13. Applicable Law, Competent Courts and Consumer Dispute Rights

This website is operated from England. These terms and your use of the site are governed by the law of England and Wales.

If you are a business customer, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with this website or any contract made with us, unless we agree otherwise in writing.

If you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the United Kingdom where you live, and nothing in this page removes the protection afforded to you by the mandatory consumer law of your home nation. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, but this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the law of your country of habitual residence where those rules apply.

Before the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union, cross-border consumer disputes could be routed through the European Online Dispute Resolution platform. That platform no longer accepts complaints about United Kingdom traders, so consumers in the United Kingdom are asked to contact us directly in the first instance and to use the complaint procedure in section 14.

14. Complaints and Dispute Resolution

We would rather resolve a problem than argue about it. If you are unhappy with our website, a service, an invoice or the way we have handled your personal data, please raise it with us first:

  1. Send a written summary of the issue, including any reference numbers and relevant dates, to the email address listed in section 4.
  2. We will acknowledge your complaint within five working days and aim to give you a substantive response within 28 days.
  3. If the matter is complex, or if an on-site inspection is required, we will tell you how long we expect the investigation to take and who is handling it.

If you remain dissatisfied, you may be able to use an alternative dispute resolution provider, although we are not obliged to participate in alternative dispute resolution in relation to consumer contracts and we will tell you clearly whether we are willing to do so in the particular case. Data protection complaints may be made at any time to the Information Commissioner's Office. Business customers should refer to the dispute provisions in the contract or order confirmation that governs their booking.

15. Changes to This Page and How to Reach Us

We review this page regularly and may update it to reflect changes in the law, in our business, or in the way the website works. The version published on this page at the time you use the site is the version that applies. Where a change is significant — for example a change to the legal identity of the operator or a change that materially affects your rights — we will highlight it on the site for a reasonable period. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last reviewed.

If you have any question about the information on this page, about how to identify the company behind the website, or about any legal notice you need to serve on us, please contact us using the details in section 4. Formal notices should be sent in writing to the registered office address shown above, marked for the attention of the company secretary.

Thank you for taking the time to read this page. It exists so that you know exactly who you are dealing with, what you can expect from us, and how to get in touch if something is not right.
